Person

Jim Kurtz, DC

Retired chiropractor who spent 12 seasons working with the Seattle Seahawks — through the Legion of Boom, a Super Bowl win, and roughly 30,000 adjustments where one wrong move could have ended his career.

Jim Kurtz is a retired chiropractor who served as the chiropractic provider for the Seattle Seahawks for 12 NFL seasons. Before that, he worked with the PGA Tour for several years, which is where he discovered what good sports medicine collaboration actually looks like — PTs and chiropractors treating athletes in the same room and stealing techniques from each other.

He came to chiropractic after rupturing his Achilles in 1972 and finding his recovery unsatisfying. He also considered physical therapy but, in 1980, PTs weren’t practicing privately and Kurtz wanted autonomy. He described it as a coin toss. His own practice, shared with his acupuncturist/chiropractor wife, was always rehab-focused enough that he says some patients couldn’t tell the difference between what he did and what a PT does.

His career summary from the episode cold open: 12 seasons, never fired. Jason’s assessment of the job he wants: “retired chiropractor.” Jim confirmed retired life is wonderful, and he wasn’t entirely sure what day it was.
